Nissan & Infiniti Key Fob Replacement: FCC IDs, Boards & Chips

ID46, ID47 and ID4A Intelligent Keys, the S180144 board numbers behind KR5S180144014, and how each programs.

Car Key Source Trade DeskSeptember 12, 2026 7 min read
Nissan Intelligent Key proximity fob

Replacing a Nissan or Infiniti key fob comes down to the transponder generation (ID46 HITAG 2, ID47 HITAG 3 or ID4A HITAG AES), the FCC ID on the fob, and the board or "S180144…" number that separates fobs sharing one FCC ID. Nissan reuses KR5S180144014 across dozens of 2013–2018 models with different boards and chips inside, so the S180144 number and the 285E3 part number matter as much as the FCC ID. This guide covers identification by generation, the FCC IDs locksmiths search most, the programming route for each, and the Nissan and Infiniti parts Car Key Source stocks.

How to identify the Nissan fob generation

Nissan's NATS immobilizer moved from ID46 to ID47 and then to ID4A within a few model years, and the same FCC ID can carry more than one chip. Use the key type, the ignition style and the S180144 number on the back of the fob together.

Era (approx.)Key typeChip / systemCommon FCC IDs

2010–2020Intelligent Key with rounded caseID46 HITAG 2CWTWB1U787, CWTWB1U808, CWTWB1U815, CWTWB1U840
2013–2016Second-generation Intelligent KeyPCF7953X HITAG 3 (ID47)KR5S180144014 with S180144018 / 014 boards
2014–2021Rogue, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Titan, Q50/Q60PCF7953M / NCF29A1M HITAG AES (ID4A)KR5S180144106, KR5S180144203/204, KR5S180144014 (S180144304 / 308 / 310 boards)
2018–2022Current Intelligent KeyNCF29A1M HITAG AES (ID4A)KR5TXN3, KR5TXN4, KR5TXN7

The trap is the middle of that table: a KR5S180144014 fob for a 2014 Altima carries an ID47 board, while the KR5S180144014 fob for a 2017 Maxima carries an ID4A board with the S180144310 number. Both say KR5S180144014 on the case. Match on the S180144 number or the 285E3 part number printed on the customer's fob, and verify on the vehicle at the transition years. The full family breakdown is in Nissan and Infiniti KR5 smart keys.

Two Rogue notes. The 2014–2020 Rogue commonly leaves the factory with a flip key (CWTWB1G767) instead of an Intelligent Key on lower trims, and it takes the NI07 / DA34 side-mill blade rather than NSN14. And the 2017–2018 Rogue 4-button fob (S180144109) uses the newer NCF29A1M chip, not the PCF7953M in the 2014–2016 fob, even though the FCC ID is KR5S180144106 on both.

Aftermarket or genuine OEM for Nissan?

All Nissan and Infiniti rows in our catalog are aftermarket parts, cross-referenced to the 285E3, 28268 or H0561 part number they replace. On the ID46 and ID4A generations the aftermarket Intelligent Keys are a well-proven product: the chip is a genuine NXP transponder and the board is built to the same FCC ID and S180144 spec. Each is covered by our programming guarantee. If a key or remote won't program on the vehicle we listed it against, it is refunded within 30 days of delivery and we pay the return freight. Genuine OEM parts for other makes are listed at /oem.

If the exact 285E3 number is not in stock, the Lonsdor NS30-04 (5-button) and NS30-17 (3-button) Nissan-style boards carry ID46, ID47 and ID4A with adjustable frequency and generate to most 2007–2020 Nissan Intelligent Key vehicles with a Lonsdor tool. The KEYDIY ZB03-4 and the Xhorse XSNIS2EN cover the same ground on KD and VVDI tools. See the Lonsdor board guide before choosing one.

How Nissan and Infiniti fobs are programmed

  • NSN14 remote head keys and plain transponder keys (ID46): tool programming through OBD. On the 2003–2012 vehicles the remote half can usually be learned onboard with the door-lock and ignition-cycle procedure; the chip half needs the tool. Nissan's older BCM-based immobilizers return a PIN the tool calculates from the BCM code, which is well documented and built into Autel, Lonsdor and Xhorse software.
  • Intelligent Keys, all generations (ID46, ID47, ID4A): tool programming only, including add-a-key. The tool reads or calculates the PIN and registers every key in one session, which is why you collect all the customer's working fobs before you start — anything not present is deleted.
  • All keys lost: same tool route on ID46 and ID47 vehicles. The 2019-and-later KR5TXN vehicles and some 2017+ ID4A vehicles use a 20-digit PIN that most tools calculate online rather than locally, so confirm your tool's current coverage before you quote.
  • Emergency blade: every Intelligent Key ships with an NSN14 (or DA34/NI07 on newer Rogue, Kicks and Qashqai) emergency blade that needs cutting to the door code. We stock the Original Lishi NSN14 for decoding the door lock.

The onboard remote procedures and tool menus are in Nissan key fob programming. A fob that locks and unlocks but will not start is a transponder-registration problem, not a battery — but if the fob does nothing at all, replace the battery before assuming the board is dead.

FAQ

Why do so many Nissan fobs share the FCC ID KR5S180144014?

One radio-module family served Nissan and Infiniti from 2013 to 2020 under a single FCC grant, and the transponder and internal board changed several times without the FCC ID changing. The S180144 number (018, 304, 308, 310, 210) and the 285E3 part number identify the actual board, so order by those, not by the FCC ID alone.

Can a Nissan Intelligent Key be programmed without a tool?

No. Every Nissan and Infiniti Intelligent Key, including add-a-key, is registered with an OBD programmer that handles the PIN. Only the remote function on the older 2003–2012 remote head keys learns onboard.

Does the 2014–2020 Rogue use a flip key or a smart key?

Both, depending on trim. Lower trims came with the CWTWB1G767 flip key on an NI07 / DA34 side-mill blade; higher trims came with the KR5S180144106 Intelligent Key. Check the customer's ignition — a twist key with a flip blade or a push-button start — before ordering.

What chip is in a Nissan key?

ID46 HITAG 2 on 2003–2020 remote head keys and first-generation Intelligent Keys, ID47 HITAG 3 on the 2013–2016 S180144018 fobs, and ID4A HITAG AES on 2014-and-later Rogue, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Titan, Q50/Q60 and every KR5TXN fob. Verify with your programmer at the 2013–2016 transition.

Are Car Key Source's Nissan fobs genuine OEM?

The Nissan and Infiniti parts we list are aftermarket, each cross-referenced to the Nissan 285E3, 28268 or H0561 part number it replaces and covered by our programming guarantee. Genuine OEM parts for other makes are at /oem.
