Nissan Key Fob Programming

Intelligent Key pairing, the PIN problem, and the Nissan and Infiniti fobs that cover the most jobs.

Car Key Source Trade Desk 6 min read

Who this page is for

Most people searching for nissan key fob programming are not planning to do the work alone — they are working out what has to be bought and who has to touch the vehicle. This page answers both halves: what the Nissan system actually requires, and which parts to have in hand before the job starts.

The system on these vehicles

Nissan uses Nissan Intelligent Key. Nissan and Infiniti share the Intelligent Key platform, so one fob part number often covers several models and both badges. The catch is the BCM PIN: most programming paths need it, and how you obtain it changes by model year. Sort the PIN question out before the vehicle arrives.

Before you order the fob

The wrong fob is the single most common reason a programming job stalls. Confirm all four of these against the customer's original, not against the model name:

  • FCC ID — printed on the back of the original fob.
  • Part number — ties the fob to the trim level and its button set.
  • Frequency — 315 MHz and 433 MHz parts look identical and are not interchangeable.
  • Battery type — CR2032, CR2450 and friends; worth stocking alongside the fob.

If any of those are unknown, run the original through Find My Fob or search by FCC ID before you commit to a part.

Programming a Nissan fob, step by step

The verified onboard procedure for Nissan is being reviewed by our trade desk before it goes up. We do not publish programming sequences we have not confirmed on the bench — the wrong sequence can lock a module.

Internal draft — compiled from published sources, not yet bench-verified

Applies to: Nissan / Infiniti keyless-entry remotes on bladed-key vehicles (roughly 1993-2015). Intelligent Key proximity fobs use a different, tool-based procedure.

You need: every remote that must work afterwards — programming clears the stored codes.

  1. Sit in the vehicle, close all doors, and lock them with the driver's door power lock switch.
  2. Insert the key into the ignition and withdraw it completely at least six times within 10 seconds. The hazard lamps flash to confirm the vehicle entered programming mode. If nothing happens, slow the cadence slightly and repeat.
  3. Insert the key and turn the ignition to ACC.
  4. Within 5 seconds press any single button on the remote once. The hazards flash to confirm. Pressing more than once aborts the procedure.
  5. For each additional remote: unlock then lock the doors with the driver's power lock switch, and within 5 seconds press one button on the next remote.
  6. Turn the ignition off, remove the key, unlock the doors with the power switch and open the driver's door to exit. Test all remotes.

Intelligent Key (push-button start) vehicles need a programmer with Nissan coverage and, in all-keys-lost, the PIN derived from the BCM.

When all keys are lost

All-keys-lost usually means pulling the PIN from the BCM, either by reading it directly or via a PIN-calculation service tied to your tool subscription. Newer platforms have tightened this considerably — confirm your programmer covers the exact year before quoting an all-keys-lost price.

Stocking for Nissan work

If Nissan is a regular part of your book, the fobs below are the ones that repeat. Stocking two or three deep on the highest-volume part numbers is usually the difference between finishing a job the same day and ordering a part while the vehicle sits.
