A remote flip key, also called a switchblade or folding key, keeps the blade folded inside the housing until a button releases it. The housing carries the lock and unlock buttons and a transponder chip, so one key opens, locks and starts the vehicle.

That makes it two jobs in one part. The chip has to be added to the immobiliser, usually through the OBD port with a key programmer, and the remote buttons have to be learned — on some vehicles in the same procedure, on others separately or with an on-board sequence. The blade is cut like any other key, and the folding blade is often a separate part that can be swapped between housings.

Flip keys that look alike often differ inside: a different frequency, a different chip, or a board built for another market. Match the FCC ID, part number and chip printed on the customer's key against the listing, not the photo, and check the blade profile before cutting.
