Most people searching for jeep key fob programming are not planning to do the work alone — they are working out what has to be bought and who has to touch the vehicle. This page answers both halves: what the Jeep system actually requires, and which parts to have in hand before the job starts.

The system on these vehicles

Jeep uses Keyless Enter-N-Go (Stellantis). Jeep sits inside the wider Stellantis platform, so the same fob frequently carries Dodge and Chrysler applications on the label. The real fork is fobik versus proximity: both appear across overlapping model years, and the system is unusually sensitive to part number and firmware revision.

Before you order the fob

The wrong fob is the single most common reason a programming job stalls. Confirm all four of these against the customer's original, not against the model name:

  • FCC ID — printed on the back of the original fob.
  • Part number — ties the fob to the trim level and its button set.
  • Frequency — 315 MHz and 433 MHz parts look identical and are not interchangeable.
  • Battery type — CR2032, CR2450 and friends; worth stocking alongside the fob.

If any of those are unknown, run the original through Find My Fob or search by FCC ID before you commit to a part.

Programming a Jeep fob, step by step

The verified onboard procedure for Jeep is being reviewed by our trade desk before it goes up. We do not publish programming sequences we have not confirmed on the bench — the wrong sequence can lock a module.

Applies to: Jeep RKE fobs on Stellantis/Chrysler-group platforms (roughly 2004-2018) that support the two-working-fob onboard procedure. All-keys-lost is a tool-and-PIN job.

You need: two currently working fobs plus the fob being added.

  1. Sit in the vehicle with all doors closed and all fobs with you.
  2. Insert a working fob's key (or place the fob in the slot) and turn the ignition to RUN without starting the engine.
  3. Press and hold UNLOCK on the working fob.
  4. After holding UNLOCK for four seconds, also press PANIC within the next six seconds.
  5. Release both buttons when you hear a single chime — that chime means the vehicle is in fob-programming mode. All fobs must be programmed within 60 seconds of the chime.
  6. On the fob being added, press and release LOCK and UNLOCK together. A single chime confirms it.
  7. Within four seconds of that chime, press any button on the same fob to store it. Repeat steps 6-7 for additional fobs.
  8. Turn the ignition OFF and test every fob for lock, unlock, remote start and panic.

If only one fob works, or none, the vehicle needs a programmer with a valid PIN — many Jeep models also enforce a security wait before accepting a new key.

When all keys are lost

All-keys-lost on Keyless Enter-N-Go vehicles needs the vehicle PIN, which most programmers can retrieve on the older platforms and increasingly cannot on the newest ones. Security-gateway equipped vehicles also require a bypass or an authorised access subscription.
