Dodge & Ram Key Fob Programming
Ram 1500 prox keys, the fobik generation before it, and the button counts that trip up an order.
Who this page is for
Most people searching for dodge ram key fob programming are not planning to do the work alone — they are working out what has to be bought and who has to touch the vehicle. This page answers both halves: what the Dodge & Ram system actually requires, and which parts to have in hand before the job starts.
The system on these vehicles
Dodge & Ram uses Keyless Enter-N-Go (Stellantis). Ram trucks are the highest-volume Stellantis job on most benches, and they are also where button count matters most: the 4-, 5- and 6-button prox keys are physically similar and functionally distinct, with the extra buttons tied to remote start and tailgate options the trim may not carry. Read the original before you order.
Before you order the fob
The wrong fob is the single most common reason a programming job stalls. Confirm all four of these against the customer's original, not against the model name:
- FCC ID — printed on the back of the original fob.
- Part number — ties the fob to the trim level and its button set.
- Frequency — 315 MHz and 433 MHz parts look identical and are not interchangeable.
- Battery type — CR2032, CR2450 and friends; worth stocking alongside the fob.
If any of those are unknown, run the original through Find My Fob or search by FCC ID before you commit to a part.
Programming a Dodge & Ram fob, step by step
The verified onboard procedure for Dodge & Ram is being reviewed by our trade desk before it goes up. We do not publish programming sequences we have not confirmed on the bench — the wrong sequence can lock a module.
Internal draft — compiled from published sources, not yet bench-verified
Applies to: Dodge and Ram RKE fobs on Stellantis/Chrysler-group platforms (roughly 2004-2018) with the two-working-fob onboard path. Ram fobik and proximity fobs on later trucks generally need a diagnostic tool.
You need: two currently working fobs plus the fob being added.
- Close all doors, sit in the driver's seat with every fob in hand.
- Turn the ignition to RUN with a working fob, without starting the engine.
- Press and hold UNLOCK on the working fob for four seconds, then also press PANIC within six seconds while still holding UNLOCK.
- Release both buttons at the single chime. You now have 60 seconds to program every fob.
- On the new fob, press LOCK and UNLOCK together and release; wait for the chime.
- Within four seconds press any button on that fob to store it. Repeat for any additional fobs.
- Turn the ignition OFF and test lock, unlock, remote start and panic on each fob.
All-keys-lost or single-fob jobs require a programmer with current Ram/Dodge coverage and the vehicle PIN; expect the security timer on 2013+ trucks.

When all keys are lost
All-keys-lost needs the vehicle PIN, and on security-gateway trucks it also needs a bypass cable or authorised access. Confirm both before you commit to a time window — this is the platform where an under-quoted all-keys-lost job most often loses money.
Stocking for Dodge & Ram work
If Dodge & Ram is a regular part of your book, the fobs below are the ones that repeat. Stocking two or three deep on the highest-volume part numbers is usually the difference between finishing a job the same day and ordering a part while the vehicle sits.
