Honda 72147 Part Numbers: Reading the Suffix (TGV, TK8, T43, TJB)

What the model code in a Honda or Acura smart key part number tells you, with a PN to FCC ID to vehicle lookup

Car Key Source Trade Desk12 septembre 2026 8 min de lecture
Honda smart key showing the 72147 part number label

A Honda or Acura smart key part number such as 72147-TK8-A81 breaks into three parts: 72147 is the Honda part-group number for a keyless entry transmitter, the middle three characters (TK8) are the model code that identifies the vehicle platform and generation, and the suffix (A81) distinguishes button count, driver number and revision within that platform. So TK8 is the 2011–2017 Odyssey, T43 the 2022+ Civic/CR-V/HR-V/Pilot, TGV the 2021–2023 Acura TLX and TJB the 2019–2020 Acura RDX. The middle code is the fastest way to confirm the vehicle; the suffix and FCC ID confirm the exact key.

How a Honda 72147 part number is built

Honda's numbering runs group–model–suffix. Every remote-head key in this range starts 35118 and every smart (proximity) key starts 72147, which is why a locksmith searching "72147" is nearly always looking for a prox fob. The model code in the middle is shared with other parts on the same vehicle, so it will match what is printed on that car's mirrors, lamps and trim. The suffix follows a pattern you can rely on most of the time, though Honda does not publish it, so verify against the vehicle:

  • The first letter is usually A; newer models use X (for example 72147-3S5-X01 on the Integra).
  • The middle digit tends to step up with button count or a trim variant (A01 is the base layout, A11 the next layout up, and so on).
  • The last digit is usually 1 for a revised release; a trailing 0 on some listings is the earlier revision.
  • Some listings add a fourth character — 72147-TGV-A110 is the Driver 2 memory key of the 72147-TGV-A01 Driver 1 key.

On vehicles with driver memory seats, Honda issues separate part numbers for Driver 1 and Driver 2 keys. They share an FCC ID and program the same way, but they are not the same part. Ask the customer which key is missing.

Model codes in the catalog and what they mean

Part-number lookup: PN, FCC ID, vehicle, product

72147-TGV-A01 has been the most-searched Honda/Acura part number on the site and was returning no results for a period; it is now listed as a genuine OEM part. If a search for any 72147 number returns nothing, the nearest alternative is another part number with the same FCC ID and button count — for the TLX that is the Driver 2 key 72147-TGV-A110, and for the RDX the TJB pair. For anything else, send a sourcing request with the part number and VIN through the trade desk (see how a sourcing request works).

Which 72147 keys can be replaced with a universal

Where the catalog gives a chip, the 2013–2021 keys (ACJ932, KR5V1X, KR5V2X, KR5T41, KR5T4X) use a 47 chip (HITAG 3) and the 2022+ KR5TP-4 keys use a 4A chip (HITAG AES). Lonsdor's HD30 Honda-style boards are listed as ID46 / ID47 / ID4A with adjustable 313/433 MHz, so they cover both groups: HD30-06 5-button, HD30-16 5-button and HD30-1D 4-button. Check the button layout against the customer's fob, since a universal with the wrong trunk or slide-door button is a callback. For programming routes by year see Honda key fob programming.

FAQ

What does the middle code in a Honda 72147 part number mean?

It is Honda's model code for the vehicle platform and generation — TK8 is the Odyssey, T43 the 2022+ Civic/CR-V/HR-V/Pilot, TGV the 2021–2023 Acura TLX. The same code appears on other parts for that car.

Is 72147-TGV-A01 in stock?

Yes. It is listed as a genuine OEM 4-button Driver 1 smart key for the 2021–2023 Acura TLX (FCC ID KR5T21, 433 MHz, ID47). The Driver 2 key is 72147-TGV-A110.

What is the difference between 72147-TJB-A01 and 72147-TJB-A11?

Both are genuine OEM 4-button keys for the 2019–2020 Acura RDX with FCC ID KR5T21. A01 is the Driver 1 key and A11 is the Driver 2 key, which recall different memory-seat settings.

Can a 72147-T43-A01 key be used on a CR-V or Pilot?

No. T43-A01 is the 4-button Civic key. The CR-V, HR-V and Pilot take the 5-button 72147-T43-A11 (or 72147-3A0-A01), which share the KR5TP-4 FCC ID but have a different button layout.

Do 35118 and 72147 numbers ever fit the same car?

Yes, on cars offered with and without proximity. The 2011–2013 Odyssey remote head key is 35118-TK8-A10/A20, while the 2014–2017 Odyssey smart key is 72147-TK8-A81/A51. Same model code, different key type.

Which chip is in the newest Honda smart keys?

KR5TP-4 keys (T43, T20, 3A0, 2025+ THR) use a 4A chip (HITAG AES). Older KR5V and ACJ932 keys use a 47 chip (HITAG 3). Verify against the vehicle when the year is close to a changeover.
